Synergy Habesha Media, Communications and Technology will premiere it’s film ‘’Quragnaye’’ on December 23, 2018 at Vamdas Entertainment. ‘’Quragnaye ‘’(English title: Enchained), written and directed by Moges Tafesse (PhD) and produced by Synergy Habesha Media, Communications and Technology PLC. ‘’Quragnaye’’ is a story that takes place 100 years ago in Ethiopia, where Gobeze a kolo temari (a wandering student) gets caught in bed with Aleme, the wife of a powerful landlord named Gonite.

Neighbors stall the ensuing fight and an elder binds together the two men’s clothes, symbolically chaining them together, and tells them to stand trial in Queen Zewditu’s court where they will defend themselves. As is customary in that judicial system, the two men can neither untie the knot that binds them, nor can they physically harm the other during their long journey.

This film that delves into an extraordinary traditional law, that was abolished during modernity in Ethiopia. During that time, rivals of any sort were chained together until they stood trial in front of the royal judge; a process that usually involves the rivals traveling for many days from their hometowns to the court. At the royal court, they perform a traditional debate with double meaning and poetic riddles, with movement and gesticulation to impress the queen and the attendants of the open court.

‘’Quragnaye’’, which was mainly shot in Ankober, has an original score composed in traditional musical styles. This film is certified by the Addis Ababa City Administration Culture and Tourism Bureau.

Some of the organizations and medias that will attend the Quragnaye premier and press conference are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Addis Ababa City Administration Culture and Tourism, private and government organizations, and media.  The film will be screened in selected cinemas on December 28, 29 and 30, 2018.
