The Sheraton Addis will once again be hosting its annual Art of Ethiopia show – bringing the colour and vivacity of local art at the Lalibella Ballroom, from December 11th to 14th from 10am to 10pm daily.  As in previous years, the entrance is free so that a maximum number of national and international visitors can enjoy this magnificent collection of Ethiopian Art.

Antony Wade, General Manager of Sheraton Addis, A Luxury Collection Hotel, emphasizes that this show, which started in 2008, was the inspiration of the late Mr. Jean-Pierre Manigoff and this year will be featured for the 8th time.

For the 2015 exhibition, from the 300 artists who submitted their work, a committee of 12 people, selected 50 artists out of which 34 new artists were selected and 16 artists who had participated in the Art of Ethiopia before. “50 artists will be displaying approximately 500 works that reflect the diversity of talent available in Ethiopia. The emphasis is on painting with about 10% of the displays featuring sculptures.

“In our goal to promote the art work of Ethiopian artists, we felt that it is necessary to promote the evolution of Ethiopian Art by including both older artists and the upcoming generation” said Mr. Wade adding that it has been witnessed that many of artists in the past have exhibited international as a result of the show and this year each piece of artwork has never been exhibited before at the Art of Ethiopia. “The Art of Ethiopia show has been hosted by the Sheraton Addis forms part of the hotel’s community outreach programme aimed at raising funds for the Sheraton Addis Endowment Fund, which supports Local Art Schools in various projects.” It should be noted that the Sheraton hosts this event but does not take or charge any funds for this Art of Ethiopia show.
